Mets sign Cristian Pache to a minor league deal
Yep.I'd rather get that guy on a minor league deal than send arms to Tampa for them, that's for sure.
0The Mets have until 5pm Monday to decide on Munetaka Murakami
I'm one of the folks who worried about Alonso aging well.I frankly stand by that, as much as I loved rooting for the guy as a Met.I doesn't need crazy re-hashing, but my concerns with Pete can pretty easily be boiled down to a simple notion: for about half of his career, he's been a one dimensional player whose singular calling card is power (i.e. for 3 out of 7 seasons, he's rocking a sub-.330 OBP and hitting .240 or lower). I worry that as he ages, that's going to become more the norm. Worth noting: that's still a decent player; 40+ HR pop doesn't grow on trees. But I think there are objectively better ways to spend $30M AAV.I started to have this stance post-2023, when he had that brutal-looking .217/.318/.504 line, and that stance solidified for me in 2024, when he had similar struggles. His 2025 season was an incredible renaissance, and I'm pulling for him to keep up similar things for the O's, but we shall see. Career years at age 30 aren't typically a good barometer for performance moving forward.I also say all of this, and I fully expect Pete to be a legitimate problem in the AL East, which is just chock full of hitter friendly parks. He's played half of his career games in a brutal home park; I expect he'll have a good looking slash line in Camden, even if his park-adjusted stats stay static (or go down).
