Mets Morning News: Polanco’s first base transition, young arms of the future
Not saying it's the right call but Robert Jr. is 3.5 years younger than Taylor who is at an age when CF defense typically craters. The other difference is they get to their wRC+ differently. Robert has legit 20 HR power. 14 each in 2024 & 2025 but in only 425 and 431 PAs. If LouBob can stay on the field for 625 PAs that's 20-21 HRs out of CF where the Mets got 7 last season. All depends on the cost but it's not unreasonable to view a now 32 year old dropping from than 97wRC+ to 70 as a lesser player than a 28 year-old dropping from 120+ down to 84. But it's baseball so who the hell knows. As always the more important question is at what cost?
